Beverly C. Taylor, Founder & Certified Trauma Specialist
My mission at Family Counseling and Trauma Healing Center is to provide an intensive treatment experience to facilitate post-traumatic growth and healing in a safe and supportive environment.
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist, certified Eye Movement Desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) trauma specialist, and substance abuse expert, with over 20 years experience providing psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families and experiential groups in private practice in the Santa Ynez Valley. My areas of expertise include trauma, adverse childhood experiences, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addictions, codependency, depression and anxiety. I also conduct intensive therapy experiential psychodrama and process groups for adults of dysfunctional childhoods and abuse.
I integrate complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored specifically to each client. With compassion and understanding, I work to help each person build on individual strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing. My goal is always to heal the entire person, releasing the past from the body and allowing for the brain to create new pathways to heal. With EMDR therapy, I help individuals pull trapped memories out of the fight/flight/freeze survival part of the brain and bring those memories to the part of the brain that is more online and rational.
I recognize the need for my clients to have additional support during the intensive therapeutic healing process. I help clients have the benefit of participating in holistic, evidence-based services to facilitate trauma and addiction healing combined with several different therapeutic modalities. Knowing how difficult it is for my clients to coordinate these services individually, my team and I have created the Family Counseling and Trauma Healing Center to address this need for safe holistic healing. Some of the additional services offered at the Center include Mindfulness, Bodywork, Yoga Therapy, Acupuncture, Art Therapy, Life and Recovery Coaching,
In offering 5-20 day intensive workshops, clients can come and really deep-dive into issues that have been haunting them or they can address a current life situation in which they feel stuck. It is amazing to watch the level of healing that happens with full containment and support.
As a graduate of Pacifica Graduate Institute, I am able to incorporate the depth therapy necessary to help clients get to the root of their symptoms. Additionally, I taught as an adjunct faculty member at Brandman University where the focus was more Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) based. These two approaches combined together with trauma processing tools like Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) allows my clients to receive the most comprehensive treatment plans for healing.
I am a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family therapist as well as the local Santa Barbara chapter wherein I occasionally submit articles and present on topics relevant for teaching and supporting the helping community. During Covid-19, my team and I honored individual healthcare providers for self care days as a way of giving back to the community. When local or overwhelming natural disaster strikes, I volunteer, whenever possible, in Disaster Mental Health with the American Red Cross.
I have been clean and sober for 30 years, and as such, I understand the struggles with the symptoms of trauma and dysfunctional childhoods. I have been willing to go to the depths of my own psyche, wherever necessary, to ensure that I can hold that space for others.
I live on a ranch with my husband and my dog where I enjoy hiking the surrounding hills and spending time in nature. When I’m not hiking, I’m enjoying yoga, dance or pickleball. In my time off, I love to travel to fun places to be with family and close friends.
